THE STAIRWAY CLUB is a refuge and meeting place for people in recovery. Recovery from what? Could be alcohol addiction, or
food addiction, or relationship addiction....the possibilities are many. The stairway herein symbolizes the Twelve Steps,
a recovery approach created by two men named Dr. Bob and Bill W. in the earlier part of the 20th Century. They created something
that really worked, and the rest is history! Very few towns in the USA are without a 12-step meeting place, and New Margretville
simply wouldn't be without one.
"If for a moment God were to forget that I am a rag doll and granted me a piece of life, I probably wouldn't say everything
that I think; rather, I would think about everything that I say.
I would value things, not for their worth but
for what they mean.
I would sleep less, dream more, understanding that for each minute we close our eyes, we
lose sixty seconds of light.
I would walk when others hold back, I would wake when others sleep, I would listen
when others talk.
And how I would enjoy a good chocolate ice cream!
If God were to give me a piece
of life, I would dress simply, throw myself face first into the sun, baring not only my body but also my soul.
My
God, if I had a heart, I would write my hate on ice and wait for the sun to show.
Over the stars I would paint
with a Van Gogh dream, a Benetti poem, and a Serrat song would be the serenade I'd offer to the moon.
I would
water roses with my tears, to feel the pain of their thorns and the red kiss of their petals.
My God, if I had
a piece of life... I wouldn't let a single day pass without telling the people I love that I love them.
I would
convince each woman and each man that they are my favorites, and I would live in love with love.
I would show
men how very wrong they are to think that they cease to be in love when they grow old, not knowing that they grow old when
they cease to be in love!
To a child I shall give wings, but I shall let him learn to fly on his own.
I would teach the old that death does not come with old age, but with forgetting.
So much I have learned
from you, oh men... I have learned that everyone wants to live at the top of the mountain, without knowing that real happiness
is in how it is scaled.
I have learned that when a newborn child first squeezes his father's finger in his tiny
fist, he has him trapped forever.
I have learned that a man has the right to look down on another only when
he has to help the other get to his feet."

To serve each other, to respect each other, to trust each other, to honor each other, to love each other, to
cooperate with each other, to care for each other, to forgive one another, to focus on peoples' good,
to laugh with
one another, to learn from one another; to pray for each other - these are all acts of love. These values and actions will
connect us to one another in the Unseen World. Nature is a good example of how we should get along with one another. Watch
nature. She is our teacher. Nature lives to give to one another. The insects give to the birds who give to the four legged
who give to the two legged. The Creator made all things perfect.
Oh Great Spirit, let me serve the people today.
Let me see that it is better to give than it is to receive. Be with
me today.

The Art of Peace
All life is a manifestation of the spirit, the manifestation of love… All things, material and
spiritual, originate from one source and are related as if they were one family.
The past, present and future are
all contained in the life force. The universe emerged and developed from one source, and we evolved through the optimal process
of unification and harmonization…
All the principles of heaven and earth are living inside of you. Life itself is
the truth, and this will never change. Everything in heaven and earth breathes. Breath is the thread that ties creation together…
Now and again, it is necessary to seclude yourself among deep mountain and hidden valleys to restore your link to
the source of life.
Breathe in and let yourself soar to the ends of the universe; Breathe out and bring the cosmos
back inside. Next, breathe up all the fecundity and vibrancy of the earth. Finally, blend the breath of heaven with that of
your own becoming the Breath of Life itself.
